Are you working hard for YOU?

There seems to be this weird thing that we do, where sometimes we push ourselves to look or act a certain way because we think that is what other people EXPECT of us.

For YEARS I felt like I was expected to live up to my “fitness girl” image-- meaning I had to workout for hours on end until my body was hurting, eat “the perfect healthy” meals and never “slip up”...it was exhausting.

Did I want to enjoy a few drinks with my friends? Yes.

Did I want to go to the beach and not think the whole time “how does my stomach look and can I post a picture like this?” Yep.

As vain as it sounds, those thoughts go through our head. And they aren’t just because we are full of ourselves, in fact, it’s usually the opposite. We are self conscious and need the validation from others to feel better, even just for one second.

Is that a sustainable and healthy way to live? Absolutely not.

Can you EVER enjoy the moment if you’re constantly worrying about what everyone else around you is thinking about you? Of course not.

At the end of the day, even if EVERYONE around you is telling you how amazing you are-- it doesn’t matter unless YOU believe it yourself.

Are you putting hours into the gym, countless nights worrying about what he or she said about you last week? Is that for YOU or to please other people? Everyone reacts and judges situations based off of their own experiences, and honestly, their opinions are none of our business.

If you’re happy with what you’re doing, know what YOU want and what is important in your life and you honor that, you will be happy. Maybe not at every moment, but you will be on the journey to being at peace with yourself.

And when that happens, you can see everything much more clearly.
